Really, in a manner of looking at it, you get to take advantage of the time and money invested by someone else to develop the site. Think about it: when you promote an affiliate link, it reflects firstly upon YOU. You are the one who is advertising the link, recommending the product, sending people who have interacted with YOU to the website.

The professional site of someone else really represents you as the promoter, in the eye of those who have clicked through your link. You get the benefits without the bother!

So you work a regular job and when the money runs out each month there are still bills to pay. You may have considered affiliate marketing as an income source in the past but dismissed it thinking affiliate marketing commissions probably would not generate enough extra money to make the work worth your while.

Since every site needs to be original and unique, even though you have the same niche, this could be a big drawback. Why would a visitor stay on your site when the same content is all over the web? This is why rewriting is necessary. You must be different from your competitors and adding your personality to each public domain article will make you different.

Another way to get free articles is to allow other sites or writers themselves to submit articles to your site that are in your niche. You should require that the articles be original and not posted on any other site. In exchange for exclusivity, guarantee them a link back to their site or product offer. This will enhance your existing content. However, such articles should not dominate your content else most of your content would be leading to other sites through the back links. This pushes your readers away from your site.

The best approach is always to have your own articles dominate your content whether they are totally original or rewritten by you to reflect your spin on the subject.

One easy trick is to add a paragraph at the beginning of a public domain or submitted article, giving your opinion of its content, and at the end, summarizing your opinion. This will change how search engines index the article and may make your version stand out. Make sure you use proper keywords and keyword phrases in your paragraphs that relate to the content of the article.

There are many article writers who do part time and freelance article writing jobs that charge minimal fees. You can get good articles that have all the keywords and keyword phrases you need that will provide what people are searching for through the search engines. You can get a quality article written exclusively for you for as little as $5. You provide the subject of your website or product offer and they do the rest.

The investment you make for these articles could be worthwhile because they can drive traffic to your website or offer and people might buy your stuff. You hold copyrights to the articles and you will be able to use them any way you choose. You can even rewrite them to add your personality.

3 Things to Know Before Submitting Your Articles Anywhere

You will find a number of my articles scattered across the Internet in more than 150 Article Directories. They have been viewed by thousands of readers, republished, and even emailed to friends of the readers. The benefit has been free information for my readers and traffic to my various blogs and websites. Feel free to copy my formula.

Submitting articles to directories is a major form of information-based marketing.

We have had information-based marketing for many years via direct mail. It's one of the oldest and most effective techniques to reach targeted prospects and convert those prospects into buyers. Now, with the Internet, the new form of direct mail has become article marketing. Article writing and directory submissions have made the difference for many websites and blogs. Where they once starved for traffic, they now have a steady flow thanks to article marketing.

The directories also benefit because of increased traffic from search engines. People who Google or Yahoo for a specific topic are likely to find many directories from which to choose that have the content they seek.

There are many tools to make the process of writing and distributing articles easily but this article is not about those, it's about how you can become an effective article marketer. It's about the mistakes you need to avoid as you start out.

Mistake 1. Writing with the wrong motives.

There are three obvious benefits to article marketing - branding, lead generation, and promotion of your website or blog. But there should be only one overwhelming motive for writing an article - to provide free and helpful information to your reader.

If the article is not focused on this primary and most important motive, it will fail to achieve the three benefits because your insincerity will be obvious. Readers are quick to perceive your self-serving purpose. How do you get people to read what is in your article, then click on your link in your resource box? Give them valuable information for free and invite them to get more by clicking your link.

Mistake 2. Failing to take advantage of article marketing as a promotional tool.

The link in your Author Box can help you generate additional links back to your site but you may not know that you can get more visitors and better search engine results from that same article.

When writing, don't forget to insert your keywords at strategic places in the article. One at the beginning, one or two in the middle and one near the end is sufficient. You should also use anchor text in your Author Box link when the directory allows html. Out of the 185 directories I submit articles to, 21 do not allow anchor text. They do allow a standard URL to link back to your website or blog.

If you take the extra time to write quality content and use keywords and/or anchor text in your articles, your articles might get picked up by publishers with a large number of readers thus further expanding your possibilities for traffic back to you. This also results in better search engine placement because of the number of links back to you from sites outside the article directory.

If you have something to sell, that increase in traffic will put money in your pocket

Mistake 3. Publishing content that is mediocre or that attempts to redirect your reader to a sales page.

If you think that you can write and submit any drivel and you will automatically get links back to your site, think again.

Nearly all article directories are human-edited which means a real person will read your article. If it's drivel, they will reject it. Do that a few times and they will blacklist you. It's very important that you read the submission guidelines to avoid rejection or blacklisting. Play by the rules and you will reap the three benefits. Not all article banks and directories are going to accept your content automatically.

When you write and submit good stuff you raise your chances of reaching hundreds, perhaps thousands of readers overnight. All it takes is one publisher with a hundred thousand readers to republish your good stuff. Write articles that you, yourself, would publish. I cannot tell you how many articles I reject for my blogs because they are self-serving drivel but it's about 99%!

Mistake 4. Submitting illiterate articles.

This is a big one. Just recently I had a spell of "writers' arrogance" and did not take the time for spelling and grammar checks. Six of my articles were rejected! I deserved that!

Look, how hard is it to do a spell check and follow basic rules of good grammar? Before you submit, check and recheck for mistakes. Editors will quickly reject your article if it doesn't meet the basics or that makes you look like you only made it through the 5th grade. I use the spell and grammar check functions built into Microsoft Word.

In the end, it's all up to you to do it the right way. Put your readers first and the benefits to you - second - and you will soon be spread all over the web.

The Google Ranking Secret Is No Secret At All

Billions of people are surfing cyberspace, many of them wanting to spend money conveniently. If you have something to sell, how can you ensure they will find you before your competitors? The answer is simple - you need to make friends with the search engines and give the search engines what they want. The good news for you is, 95% of your competitors ignore this secret that is hidden in plain sight because it's too easy!

What is the secret hiding in plain sight? Search engines want fresh, quality content! They have always wanted fresh, quality content. They are in business to serve the masses so they are brutally picky about who makes it to the first page of search results. Yes, getting backlinks from quality websites is a factor but it means nothing without quality content.

One of my websites is relatively new. It has a Google PR3. That might seem an envious position. Using my Google Page Rank, I applied to one of those sites that pays for reviews. I was rejected. Why? Very little traffic. My site is generating a measly 300 unique visitors a month (May 2008). I just do not have enough quality content on that site as yet to make it attractive to sponsors.

So, you see, Page Rank is not always an indication of traffic. It simply means I have a number of back links from high quality sites. Google sees back links as votes. The more back links, the more votes, the higher the Page Rank. Quality content, on the other hand, is the secret to generating traffic. Not only that, quality is what leaves you there for years to come. Even if your site goes down, your quality content will still be found on the Internet highway!

Quality content consists of profitable keywords and some solid information for your visitors. Don't make the mistake of producing content loaded with all sizzle and no steak. Your visitors can't eat sizzle. They need steak in the form of solid information they can use.

If you want to monetize your website or blog, the great way to do it is through Adsense, those little ads from Google you see on many websites and blogs.

The one format that is working well for the majority is the large rectangle (336x280). That's the one in my sidebar. This format has the tendency to result in higher C.T.R., or the click-through rates. Why choose this format out of the many you can use? Basically because the ads will look a block of content, and most people, looking for information, click these types of links. They may or may not know they are clicking on your Adsense ad but as long as they click, you make a little bit of money for each click.

The other format is a string of links at the top of the page. Mine appear just beneath my Favorite Blogs links at the top of this page. Again, these are not in-your-face ads. They appear more like links to more information, which they are.

The object, aside from making a few cents per click-through, is to provide visitors with links to explore that might have information they are interested in, information that was not fully provided during their visit to your website or blog. So it's a win-win for everyone.

2. Create a custom palette for your ads.

This simply means that you should choose a color that will go well with the background of your site. If your site has a white background, try to use white as the color of your ad border and background. The idea to patterning the colors is to make the Adsense look like it is part of the web pages. Again, This will result to more clicks from people visiting your site.

3. Remove the Adsense from the bottom pages of your site and put them at the top.

Do not try to hide your Adsense. Put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between Adsense locations can make when you see your earnings. Especially place your ads at the top and upper left of the site. These are the proven hot spots.

4. Choose keywords carefully before you write content.

Keywords are the "key" to getting relevant ads showing on your website or blog. Your site should be focused around a single theme and keywords in your posts/articles should reflect that theme. Your site will be easier to find via search engines and that traffic just might click through an Adsense ad on your site.

How To Create A "Buyers Only" List

Content is King. It gets to wear the crown. And sit on the throne. And rule the world. When it comes to establishing credibility, gaining trust and producing sales, content is royalty.

While I would never suggest abandoning the concept of delivering high quality content to your subscribers, there is another type of list composed of subscribers who couldn't care less about content.

"What is this type of list?" you ask.

The "Announcement List"

I've been teaching about the "announcement" list since at least 2002 (on record at an event). And, yet, it's a widely untapped asset in most email marketing circles. The main reason is: nobody's teaching it. And so, nobody knows anything about it, let alone how to effectively create one of these lists. So, we're going to revisit it.

What Is An "Announcement" List?

An announcement list is a list whose sole purpose is to "announce" (i.e. Inform, Notify) when something new is available for review, consumption or purchase. In other words, it unapologetically says, "Hey, I just released XYZ. Come check it out!"

Now, at first glance you may be thinking, "Who would join a list that offers no content and only sales pitch?"

If you say it that way, it doesn't sound too good to me either! That's why you don't say it that way. Let's take a look at how to "say it"...

How About An Example "Announcement"?

If you go to this site: PLRSO.com you'll find a textbook example of this concept. PLRSO stands for "Private Label Rights Special Offers" I established this list for the sole purpose of informing people anytime I have a new PLR offer available for them to buy.

That's it.

I don't send out ezine articles to them. No newsletters. They don't get blog posts. There aren't any special reports. No content of any kind. What they get, in essence, are sales messages. And there are already 2,822 subscribers, many of whom have already purchased some of the PLR special offers that have been "announced" to the list.

Why does it work? Let me give you plenty of reasons...

1. I took something that was "in-demand" (PLR) and I allow people to get a head-start on the world by knowing about new releases first by joining this list.

2. It's not billed as an "announcement list", but rather a "Free PLR Club". Big, big difference in perception.

3. It has it's own domain name, further adding to the perceived value and importance to those who join.

4. There is no requirement to buy once you join. Buy the offers that you want, pass on the ones you don't want.

5. A cost example is provided to show what you can buy immediately, further illustrating the value of the complimentary "membership".

And here's the big twist that makes this idea of creating an "announcement" list a complete no-brainer...

I allow my affiliates to "give away" complimentary memberships to the PLRSO Club!

When someone they refer buys one of the offers, they earn a commission. And I get other people to promote and build my list for me. We all win.

So, you may be thinking...

What Kind Of "Announcement" List can I Build?

There are a wide variety of "announcement" lists that you can build. Let's briefly look at some of them you can use...

1) PLR List. You can swipe my idea and create a list of private label rights buyers.

2) New Offers List. Build a list of people who love your work and want to be notified any time you have a new offer available.

3) Pre-Launch List. Create buzz and anticipation for an upcoming new product release by building a pre-launch list several weeks (even months) in advance.

4) Ezine Publishers List. Build a list of publishers who want to know any time you have a new ezine article that is available for reprint in their ezines.

5) Bloggers List. Another idea is to allow bloggers who are looking for ready-made content to post to their blogs.

6) Industry News List. How about becoming the "go to" guy or gal to share breaking news about your industry?

7) Joint Venture List. Develop a list of partners and affiliates who are ready to promote anytime you have a new offer.

8) Incentives List. Here's a great idea - create a list of people who you offer "incentives" to when they purchase someone else's new product through your affiliate link.

9) Freebie List. Regularly give away rebrandable content (reports, articles, videos, etc.) to these subscribers to earn commissions.

While all of these lists aren't necessarily "buyers" up front, they each can certainly lead to buyers and revenue for you if you implement them.

Content is King. But let's not forget that there are alot of Queens, Princes, Dukes and Earls out there just waiting to sign up to your list.

The Newbie Video Marketing Revolution Is Underway

Techie's no longer have a corner on video marketing as newbies are discovering new video creation and marketing tools designed just for them. New Internet businesses are being launched by newbies who are finding financial success equal to so called pro video marketers.

This is not a technical article about how to create video, although you will find some good tips in that regard, it is more to convince you that you should not fear the video creation process and why you should start now to use video in your Internet marketing. There is nothing to fear and nothing that good software tools cannot overcome. Making video today is a simple point and click operation.

Here are some simple ways you can begin your video marketing campaign:

1) The cheapest way to capture video is free for anyone who runs WindowsXP or higher on their home computer. Windows Movie Maker is built in and offers a variety of ways to capture video right from your computer or after you have downloaded video from the Internet.

2) The next cheapest is to purchase a web cam and a microphone. Some web cams have built in microphones that are of good quality. These are available everywhere for 20 bucks or a little more. You can sit in front of your web cam and record your pitch and even capture screen shots if you are showing your product in action as in a tutorial video.

3) For about 100 bucks you can buy a digital camera that takes still photos and video too. These work well because you can record up to 30 minutes of video with sound as your narrate what you are recording. I use one for family videos and it works quite well.

4) If you have a little money to invest, buy a good camcorder for about 200 bucks. This will up the quality level of your video. By quality I mean resolution or picture quality. The better the pixel quality, the better your final video will be after final editing. This is my choice for video marketing because of the higher quality. Remember, each time you dub a video during editing, the quality will degrade a little so it's best to have the highest quality video to start with.

These are the main video capture devices you need to consider. Once your raw video is recorded, you download it into Windows Movie Maker or other video editing software, clean it up, and you are ready to upload to your website or to video sharing sites like YouTube. You can even add your website URL to the video so folks can find your website after watching.

It's important to talk about bandwidth usage. When you host your video on your website you will be eating up bandwidth which could cause your host to charge your more for hosting the videos. However, when you upload to sites like YouTube, Google Video and YahooVideo, you pay no bandwidth costs whatsoever. They host your videos for free. This is the main reason that smart video marketers use such video sharing sites and one you must copy in order to be successful with video marketing.

These sites also offer the opportunity for you to place links to your website, product, or service, in your Profile. People viewing your video can easily click through to your offering. In addition, videos can have a viral effect if they are entertaining or offer something really unique.

One final piece of advice about the content of your video. Make sure the video ties directly into your product, website or service. You can create a wacky video. How about a bungee jumping elephant? That will surely get thousands of viewers but do nothing to sell your product or service if the content of the video has nothing to do with what you are selling unless, of course, you are selling stuffed elephant toys for kids!

On a cautionary note, do not create a hub that is hard sell or blatant spam. Fellow hubbers will trash you quickly and get you booted. You must provide lots of helpful content and then you can soft sell your product. You should write your content in a conversational voice, not like a professor or teacher.

The key to HubPages is generating word-of-mouth among other hubbers so they will be quick to vote up your hub. Spammers quickly see their hubs voted into oblivion because, frankly, they could care less about being part of a community of people who pride themselves on sharing knowledge and opinion. They deserve what they get.

Trust me on this, I should know. I was suspended by Yahoo Answers twice because I made some newbie mistakes. When they ban you, they never tell you why you are suspended or how to fix it and there is No Appeal! Once you are suspended, you are done with that particular account forever!

By the way, I stopped getting suspended once I applied these techniques, and others, to my marketing.

I use Yahoo Answers to promote my 35 blogs and websites by quickly finding the right Questions to answer. Am I an expert in every topic? No! I just know how to find the information to answer the questions and drive hundreds of new visitors within hours to any given blog or website I choose.

For example, my three favorite information sites are: Answers.com, eHow.com, and About.com. You can find information on just about any topic at those sites. Just choose something from the articles that would make a good answer, rewrite it. Use only two or three sentences, in your own words, and post it.

Never use the information as you find it on these sites. You must rewrite to avoid copyright issues. Rewriting information for good answers is really easy to do. You don't have to be an expert on the topic. The idea is to give just enough information to drive that traffic to your offer.

Besides making money, I like helping people. Yahoo Answers allows me to easily do both. I simply find a Question and give a three to five sentence answer that leads to more information at any blog or website of my choosing where my products solve their problem.

One answer, consisting of three simple sentences, got 145 new visitors to one of my blogs in about an hour! Amazing!

If you can type, you can take control of your traffic using the Yahoo! Answers community. People post questions every minute of every day and by simply answering these questions briefly and directing them to your more detailed solution you will immediately see how effective this marketing technique can be.

No products of your own to offer? That's not a problem. You can still make money as an affiliate selling other people's products. The Clickbank Marketplace has tons of great products you can sell.
